yessss, I will listen to this when I get home! Hopefully they didn’t go soft like bring me the horizon did. Not that BMTH was that good to begin with but it was so upsetting how much worse they got.

Based on the first 10 seconds, they definitely didn’t go soft.

Sounds pretty similar to Koloss to me, maybe with a little ObZen in there.

Yeah, I’ve listened to it about 5 times already. Can’t wait for the rest of the album.

I duno BMTH had some good tracks if you look at them more as hard-core punk with electronic elements. They were never going to be a through and through metal band. The newest album is a bit crap though and Oli has become (or maybe he always was) a bit of a cunt.

Yeah good point, they never were a true metal band. But at least they were heavy as hell in their older stuff. Their 2nd to last album definitely did the electronic hardcore punk thing well which is why the latest one disappointed me. I like to compare them to Of Mice and Men. Those guys dropped some of the heaviness too but they did it in a unique way that came out really well. The Flood is arguably better than the newest album but I really enjoyed it anyways because it was different. I just cant listen to the BMTH album because it doesn’t have enough heavy to be enjoyable to me.

Yeah the newer stuff is bordering on mainstream pop at times, but they still try to put their old aesthetic on top of it (the ultra violent videos etc) and its really jarring. Honestly I think they’ve just lost whatever it was they had. Some may like it and thats fair enough, but I agree with you, it isn’t heavy enough. Honestly there are few bands that got less heavy that I still enjoyed. Maybe Trivium when they moved to clean vocals on the newest album, but I saw them on their latest tour and theyre still heavy as hell regardless of how the vocals are performed.

Well Trivium was kinda shit metal before lol. So their move actually made them better since it was something different. But yup definitely agree, it is rather difficult for a heavy band to get less heavy and still be good. Slightly different genre, but Circus Maximus (prog band, often compared to Dream theater and symphony x) was one of my favorite bands of all time. First 3 albums had a nice balance of heavy and clean prog. 4th (latest) album is complete shit to me because it dropped all of the heavy!

I have gotten more into Black metal though lately. And whatever category SUMAC/ISIS and Necrosis are in because that is some good shit.

Trivium are part of the reason I got into metal to be honest, loved every album. I’ve always skewed more towards metalcore or whatever you want to call it, although I’ll give basically anything a try. I originally got into music with punk and ska so metal core is kinda the progression of that for me.

Oh yeah, I definitely used to like Trivium, they were one of the first few I listened to as well. Them along with As I Lay Dying, Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, and August Burns Red were top on my list. I have gotten way more into what I like to call groove metal with Gojira and Lamb of God and now it makes a lot of the metalcore stuff seem crappy. But yeah I definitely understand where you are coming from!

God I love Gojira. They played a festival I was at but I took ill (severe migraine) so I missed them. Was absolutely gutted.
